VIDEO: Massive fire engulfs nearly-completed condo complex in Langley

An under-construction condo complex in Langley, which was nearing completion, went up in flames late Monday night.

The building was called Alexander Square, and while no residents had moved in yet, a number of occupied buildings nearby were evacuated due to the blaze.

Residents flocked to the streets to catch a glimpse of the massive flames, which were seen from all over the Lower Mainland.

Witnesses reported that the heat coming off the fire, which was near the intersection of 208th Street and 80th Avenue, could be felt blocks away.

Around 11 pm, explosions were heard coming from the building and the surrounding area went dark.

When the building finally collapsed around midnight, it reportedly took down several power lines in the area, which has left the area without power for hours now.

Emergency crews have asked people to avoid the area today and a nearby school even cancelled classes today since emergency responders remain on the scene.

Since the sun rose this morning, people have been finding debris from the fire blocks away from the scene.

At this point, there’s been no report of injuries and a cause has yet to be determined.

NowMedia will update this story as more information becomes available.
