VIDEO: The moment a dump truck crashed into a BC overpass

Dash cam footage has surfaced of a bizarre crash that hindered traffic in the Lower Mainland on Friday.

Shortly after 7 am, a commercial truck hauling a dump trailer in the raised, vertical position crashed into an overpass on Knight Street.

“The commercial vehicle was located some distance away as it was severed from the trailer unit, still lodged underneath the overpass,” explained police.

Jenn Hoban posted her dash cam footage over the weekend that captures the early-morning incident and the lead up to it.

It shows, as police described, the dump trailer in the upright position as the commercial vehicle approaches and then crashes into the overpass.

An SUV is forced to slam on its brakes to avoid rear-ending the trailer.

The RCMP said there were no reported injuries in the crash, but the driver of the commercial vehicle was “uncooperative with investigators.”

The Richmond Road Safety Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation and is working alongside the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement branch.

Any witnesses who have yet to speak with police are urged to reach out to the Richmond RCMP by calling 604-278-1212.
