A little more than four months after a vehicle with four people inside crashed into the Squamish River, recovery crews have pulled it from the water.
Unfortunately, the passenger who was unable to get to safety when the vehicle plunged into the fast-flowing river remains missing at this time.
The RCMP says the vehicle recovery marks “a significant step” in the ongoing investigation into the single-vehicle crash that happened in the early morning hours of June 14.

Efforts to locate the car and missing person were unsuccessful immediately after the crash due to the spring runoff.
“The river in this area is exceptionally deep and fast-flowing due to spring runoff, making conditions hazardous,” an RCMP statement at the time explained.
The RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team determined that the June water levels and unknown location of the vehicle made recovery impossible at the time.
While the Sea to Sky RCMP's General Investigation Section is in charge of the investigation, police say the URT and Squamish Search and Rescue were integral in recovering the vehicle on Oct. 18.
“Their diligent efforts of monitoring water levels and ultimately locating the still submersed vehicle, led to the successful recovery of the vehicle in challenging conditions,” an RCMP release issued this morning said.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the single-vehicle collision remains active, but the RCMP has no further information to release at this time.
