Two men have been charged in connection to the death of 30-year-old Cameron Kerr in northern BC more than six years ago.
The RCMP announced today that Taylor Stogryn and Conrad Wierzbicki, now 36 and 34 years old respectively, have been charged with indignity to human remains and obstructing justice.
Stogryn has also been charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident.
Kerr was killed early in the hours of Nov. 18, 2018. He was walking along Hwy 16 around 3 am when he was struck by a truck just outside Terrace.
According to police, Kerr’s body was allegedly rolled into the ditch and not discovered until later that day.
The investigation was initially led by the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP). Evidence was collected at the scene and arrests were made, but no charges were laid.
The BC RCMP’s Major Crime Special Projects Unit (MCU) eventually took over the probe, receiving assistance from the BCHP, Terrace RCMP and Criminal Collision Investigation Team.
“This was a very complex investigation and I am proud of the work of our skilled investigators to bring us to this important point,” said MCU Insp. Mike Kim.
“I want to acknowledge and thank Cameron’s family, and the community, for their patience as we took the necessary time to gather the evidence and advance our investigation.”
The RCMP says Stogryn and Wierzbicki will appear in court “in the near future,” but the BC court registry does not list court dates for them as of yet.
