The odds have been listed for what hospital British Columbia’s New Year’s baby will be born in on Wednesday.
Although you can bet almost anything these days, this wager has been offered up by the BCLC through PlayNow for several years.
BC Women’s Hospital in Vancouver is once again the betting favourite to be the home of BC’s first baby of 2025 at +250 (a $10 bet would return $35).
Despite being the annual favourite, BC’s new year baby has not been born at BC Women’s Hospital since 2017.
Royal Columbian Hospital had that honour in 2024. Last year, the New Westminster hospital was offered up at +1100 odds, but those have shortened to +400 12 months later.
Surrey Memorial Hospital also has +400 odds, rounding out a clear top three of Lower Mainland favourites.
Victoria General Hospital is fourth on the list and has the shortest odds of any hospital outside the Lower Mainland at +1000.
Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Centre is close behind at +1100, then the rest of the list can be considered longshots with odds of +1900 or greater.
Wagering on BC’s New Year’s baby through PlayNow is available until 6 am PST on Dec. 31 and the bet will obviously be settled this week.
If you’re looking at a more long-term wager, the BCLC is also offering odds on what will be the most popular names for BC babies in 2025.
Noah (+300), Oliver (+300), Liam (+400) and Theodore (+400) are the betting favourites for boys, while Olivia (+200), Emma (+500), Sophia (+500) and Charlotte (+700) are the shortest odds for girls’ names.
You can find the full list of betting options for both the BC New Year’s baby and BC’s most popular baby names on the BCLC PlayNow website.
