Friends and family of Noah Trulsen are reeling from the young man's untimely death this week.
The 22-year-old was playing beer league hockey in Langley on Wednesday when he caught an edge while rushing to the bench for a line change.
His friend and teammate, Gerry Leiper, says he saw Trulsen’s forehead hit the top of the board and his face shield come down on the bridge of his nose.
Trulsen was sent sprawling to the ice.
He was taken off the ice by paramedics and transported to Langley Memorial Hospital, where he passed away at 12:34 a.m. today.
Leiper says he'll remember Trulsen as a "gentle giant" and "one of the best players out there."
His mother, Lorraine, announced his passing through the Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association’s Facebook page.
She thanked both teams, the paramedics, ambulance attendants, police, doctors and nurses who tried so save the 22-year-old’s life after the unfortunate incident.
“We love you son and we will think of you every day,” she said to finish the statement.
The BC Coroners Service confirmed to the Canadian Press that it was investigating the cause of Trulsen’s death.
