Auctions are exciting, unreserved auctions are even more amped up.
"Unreserved means there's no minimum and no maximum price," said auctioneer Brian Lovig of Kelowna-based Lovig Auction.
"It's a totally free marketplace. We will be selling 100 RV lots on Saturday, Aug. 13 regardless of price. It will be fascinating to see what happens, because anything can happen at a live auction."
Lovig is overseeing the auction for MaraHills Golf Resort on Mara Lake just south of Sicamous.
MaraHills is the renamed Hyde Mountain, which already consists of an 18-hole golf course designed by Les Furber, a clubhouse, restaurant and marina.
The next phase of development on the 264-acres resort is 100 RV lots on five acres overlooking the golf course, marina and lake.
"An auction accelerates the process," said Lovig.
"We're going to sell 100 RV lots in three hours, not three months."
Recreational vehicle (RV) sales soared during the pandemic as people sought out the toys needed for fun, family time and a better quality of life.
As a result, there's a shortage of RV lots, especially ones in spectacular locations such as MaraHills.
The RV lots at MaraHill also measure 40-feet wide by almost 80-feet long, which is about twice as big as the norm.
There's also the option for future owners of the bare-land strata RV lots to put their lot, with or without a RV on it, into the rental pool for return-on-investment income.
The lots have been valued at $150,000 to $200,000.
"We do that just as a guideline," said Lovig.
"The reality is these lots are going to the highest bidder, we won't know the true value until the day of the auction."
With the pandemic behind us and this being a live auction, Lovig expects 90% of bidders will be at MaraHills in person.
However, there's also the option to bid virtually.
Anyone interested in bidding must register beforehand at LovigAuction.com and anyone who successfully bids has to be ready to sign a contract and put down a deposit.
Lovig imagines the buyers will be an even mix of people from the Thompson Okanagan and Alberta.
MaraHills' transformation to a master-planned community also includes a new clubhouse and restaurant for the golfers, residents and the public, residential lots and condominium buildings.
The RV lots are being prepared on land that was previously the driving range.
The driving range is being relocated.
Ground preparation is well underway so the fully-serviced RV lots can be ready for move-in, likely in the spring of 2023.
The RV subdivision will also have a pool and hot tub, playground and golf cart parking.
