Avalanche control: 9-hour closure coming for Hwy 1 east of Revelstoke on Wednesday

A lengthy avalanche control closure will shut down the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) on Wednesday.

According to DriveBC, the closure will be between Revelstoke and Golden beginning at 3 am.

It will last nine hours, the travel service says, and the highway is expected to reopen at noon.

The major route will be closed in both directions while avalanche control takes place.

There will be no detour available, so DriveBC is urging travellers to plan accordingly.

While the Hwy 1 closure is not scheduled until 3 am, DriveBC is advising motorists that inclement weather is on the way earlier than that.

Deteriorating conditions and visibility are expected on southern Interior highways this evening and it may cause short notice closures for avalanche control and deposit removal.

You can stay up to date on highway closures and conditions by visiting the DriveBC website.
