(UPDATE: 8:50 a.m.) - The Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) has reopened west of Revelstoke.
The road was closed following a fatal collision between two semis on Monday night.
There are still heavy delays expected in the area as traffic is released in a staggered manner.

(Original story: 6:45 a.m.) - One person is dead and the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) remains closed between Sicamous and Revelstoke after a Tuesday night crash.
The accident happened at 8 p.m. about 25 kilometres west of Revelstoke and involved a pair of commercial tractor-trailers, which both suffered extensive damage.
The driver of one truck died on scene, while the other was transported to Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke.
It nearly got worse around 9 p.m. when another tractor trailer was unable to stop for other vehicles that had stopped for the original incident.
The semi rear-ended another tractor trailer that was stopped at the scene and caused extensive damage, although no more injuries were reported.
UPDATE - CLOSED - #BCHwy1 5km east of #Sicamous to #Revelstoke. No detour available, estimated time of opening: 8 AM.

The highway remains closed while an RCMP traffic analyst is examining the scene to determine the cause of the original accident.
