UPDATE: Hwy 1 reopens between Kamloops and Salmon Arm, police seeking witnesses to crash

(UPDATE: Oct. 28 @ 1:50 pm) - Hwy 1 is once again open in both directions between Kamloops and Salmon Arm following a crash this morning.

However, eastbound traffic is still reduced to one lane with a 50 km/hr speed limit for the time being.

The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) is now seeking witnesses to the crash in hopes of advancing the investigation.

The crash happened around 7:45 am on Hwy 1 near Balmoral.

According to police, an eastbound cement truck lost control while trying to avoid a collision with a merging white SUV.

As the cement truck tried to avoid the vehicle, it lost control, crashed into the centre divider and rolled over.

A westbound pickup truck then collided with one of the concrete barriers that had been dislodged.

"The drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries," the BCHP confirmed.

The BCHP is hoping witnesses will come forward, but the one person they want to talk to most is the driver of the white SUV that the cement truck had to swerve to avoid.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the BCHP in Revelstoke by calling 250-805-2111.

(Original story: Oct. 28 @ 9:15 am) - Anyone driving between Kamloops and Salmon Arm this morning will need to detour around Hwy 1.

The highway is currently closed in both directions, according to DriveBC, due to a “vehicle incident.”

The incident is just southeast of Balmoral.

At the moment, there is no estimated time for the highway to reopen, but DriveBC expects to provide the next update around 11 am.

Motorists can detour around it by using Hwy 97 through Falkland and Monte Lake.

NowMedia will update this story as more information becomes available.
