UPDATE: Hwy 1 reopens to single-lane alternating traffic east of Sicamous

(UPDATE: Aug. 29 @ 2 pm) - The Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) has partially reopened east of Sicamous.

DriveBC says the highway is open to single-lane alternating traffic, but motorists should expect delays as congestion eases after the lengthy closure.

(UPDATE: Aug. 29 @ 11:45 am) - The Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) remains closed in both directions east of Sicamous.

There is now a detour available for passenger vehicles via Cambie Solsqua Road and Solsqua Sicamous Road. No detour is available for commercial traffic.

While Hwy 1 remains closed in the Shuswap, it's now fully open east of Chilliwack following an earlier accident.

(Original story: Aug. 29 @ 8:15 am) - A morning closure of the Trans-Canada Highway is likely hampering some people’s plans to get a kickstart on the long weekend.

The highway is shut down in both directions just east of Sicamous following a morning crash.

DriveBC says an assessment is in progress and no detour is available. The next update isn’t expected until noon.

That isn’t the only issue on Hwy 1 early this morning either, as another crash shut down the route in both directions just east of Chilliwack as well.

Although eastbound lanes just recently reopened, the highway is still blocked off westbound and traffic is being detoured via Hwy 9.

NowMedia will update this story as the status of these closures changes.
