Police investigating alcohol and speed as factors in serious Hwy 97C motorcycle crash

The BC Highway Patrol is appealing for more witnesses to come forward as investigators probe a serious single-vehicle motorcycle crash that shut down Hwy 97C on Monday.

According to police, a blue Harley Davidson with two people on board crashed on Hwy 97C, several kilometres north of the Hwy 8 junction, around 2:15 pm.

The 37-year-old male driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while his 39-year-old female passenger was hospitalized with life-threatening, life-altering injuries.

“Alcohol and speed are being investigated as contributing factors,” explained Cpl. Michael McLaughlin through a media release. “Police need your help to learn more about the motorcycle rider’s behaviour in the hours and minutes leading up to the collision.”

Anyone who saw the driving behaviour of the blue Harley Davidson in the minutes and hours before the crash, or those with relevant dash cam footage, is urged to contact the BCHP’s Kamloops division at 250-828-3111.
