Weather alerts remain in place for three major BC Interior highway routes.
Environment Canada re-issued a snowfall warning for the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1), around Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass, and the Okanagan Connector (Hwy 97C) this morning.
According to the weather service, the projected snow accumulation for both routes is 15-20 centimetres, with up to 30 cm possible at higher elevations along Hwy 1.
For all three weather alerts, the accumulation number includes what fell overnight.
It’s a winter storm warning for the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5), with Environment Canada projecting up to 30 cm for the route between Merritt and Hope.
That stretch of Hwy 5 is currently closed due to a vehicle incident late Tuesday night.
Environment Canada adds that gusty winds of up to 50-60 km/h are expected to hit Hwy 5 and Hwy 97C this morning.
There will be a gradual easing of snowfall intensity as the moisture-laden Pacific frontal system moves out of the region over the coming hours.
However, the weather service warns that poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays today.
