UPDATE: Two people killed in collision that closed Hwy 1 near Golden

(UPDATE: 6:20 pm) - RCMP have confirmed two fatalities as a result of the collision on the Trans Canada highway, which closed the roadway for several hours on Saturday morning.

According to police, two vehicles collided resulting in the deaths of a male and a female, both believed to be residents of Delta.

Additionally, four others were injured and were taken to hospital via air ambulance — two of the individuals were in serious condition and two were in critical condition.

Police, along with the BC Coroners Service, are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision.

Highway 1 was closed for approximately four hours following the fatal collision but has since reopened.

(UPDATE: 4:10 pm) - Highway 1 has reopened to traffic following a serious collision Saturday morning that sent four people to hospital.

Drive BC reported that the road has been fully opened to traffic.

According to a BC EHS spokesperson, ambulances received a call at around 11 a.m. this morning of a collision 30 kilometres from Golden.

Three ground crews and two air ambulances were dispatched to the scene. Two individuals were brought to hospital in a serious condition and another two were taken to hospital in critical condition. BC EHS was not able to disclose if there were any fatalities at the scene.

The highway and the nearby area is expected to be congested, be wary of traffic delays if you are planning on taking this route.

DriveBC is reporting that the Trans Canada Highway is closed in both directions this afternoon following a vehicle incident.

The incident is between Quartz Creek FSR and Donald FSR, east of Revelstoke.
