Work to permanently repair catastrophic damage to Hwy 1 through the Fraser Valley following the atmospheric river weather event in November 2021 is ongoing.
As progress continues to be made, the Ministry of Transportation will need to implement a pair of full-day closures of the highway before the end of the month.
The first closure will be from 4:30 am until 8:30 pm on Tuesday, April 23, at Tank Hill, which is 14 kilometres east of Lytton.
This closure will allow Canadian Pacific Kansas City crews to realign the railway track crossing Hwy 1.
The second closure will be from 7 am on Monday, April 29, until 7 am on Tuesday, April 30, at Falls Creek (Jackass Mountain).
This 24-hour closure will allow crews to lift and slide a new permanent bridge into place.
“Arrangements have been made with emergency services to facilitate access through the sites during the closures,” noted a release from the Ministry.
Travellers are advised to take Hwy 3 or Hwy 5 as alternate routes while these closures are active.
