A vehicle fire shut down the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) between Revelstoke and Golden overnight.
According to the RCMP, the major route shut down shortly after midnight as crews dealt with the vehicle that was “fully engulfed in flames” just east of Glacier National Park.
DriveBC reported that Hwy 1 reopened around 4:30 am to single-lane alternating traffic and remains that way as of now.
As a result, both police and DriveBC are advising motorists to expect delays in their travels between Revelstoke and Golden.
It’s unknown at this time when the highway’s traffic flow will be fully restored.
