It may be raining the valley bottoms but this weather pattern that's making its way across the Southern Interior, but there is now the potential for snow over highway mountain passes.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Coquihalla (Hwy 5) between Hope and Merritt, the Okanagan Connector (Hwy 97C) from Merritt to Kelowna and Highway 3 for the Allison Pass and Kootenay Pass.
Up to four cm of wet snow is possible but anyone travelling those routes is reminded to prepare for changing weather in the mountains.
“Because of the convective nature of the system, snow levels may temporarily lower to 1200-1600 metres as intense bands of precipitation move through,” Environment Canada says.
“Snowfall accumulations will be highly variable depending on elevation. Trace to 4 cm can be expected tonight to Saturday afternoon.”
The special weather alert will be in place until Saturday afternoon.
