A blast of winter weather is expected to hit the southern Interior over the next 36 hours.
As a result, Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Hwy 3 through the Kootenays.
“A frontal system will cross the region today bringing heavy snow for the Kootenay Pass,” reads the weather alert.
It warns that snowfall accumulations between 30-40 centimetres are possible by Tuesday afternoon.
Along with significant snowfall around the Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass, Environment Canada is also predicting gusty winds up to 50 km/h.
As always, weather in the mountains can change suddenly and produce hazardous driving conritions, and travellers are encouraged to be prepared.
