Dozens of workers in Salmon Arm will soon be out of works as the Safeway store in the community has announced it will close.
According to Keri Scobie, Communications Manager with Sobeys Westcoast, employees were told over the weekend that the store will be closing on November 5th, 2015. Scobie says the decision was a regular course of action for business. When asked if the decision to close the store was in the works for some time, Scobie didn’t directly answer the question.
“We review stores and our store network and make decisions based on what is the best for our network moving forward. With this particular location it made the most sense even though it was difficult to close that store,” explained Scobie.
There are about 50 employees at the Salmon Arm Safeway, which is located along the TransCanada Highway. The store also housed a pharmacy which will also be closing.
The Safeway store is the only Sobeys owned store in the community. There are two other grocery stores in Salmon Arm, a No Frills and Askew’s Foods as well as a Walmart Supercentre.
