A new 38-unit supportive housing building has opened up in Salmon Arm for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
The Cedar place, located at 540 3rd St., and is a four-storey building with self-contained studio homes.
The Canadian Mental Health Association – Shuwap/Revelstoke (CMHA-SR) will manage the building with two staff members on site at all times.
“We are so pleased to be opening up Cedar Place in November 2021,” said Dawn Dunlop, executive director, CMHA-SR.
“We are looking forward to welcoming 38 people home. Thank you to our partners and community for all the support.”
Residents will have access to on-site support services like life-skills training, employment assistance, counselling and addiction recovery services.
The building will also have office and programming space, laundry facilities and a commercial kitchen and dining area.
Cedar Place joins two other buildings (Larch Place and Birch Place) that opened earlier this year.
The three buildings offer 105 new affordable homes for Salmon Arm.
The Province, through BC Housing, provided $11.7 million to the project and The City of Salmon Arm provided around $100,000.
Around $1 million will be provided by the Province for annual operating funds.
