Talking Rock Golf Course reopens Friday after weekend fire at Quaaout Lodge

After a catastrophic fire broke out at the Quaaout Lodge in Chase, the Little Shuswap Lake Band announced on Wednesday that they will be able to resume some normal operations.

The Talking Rock Golf Course will be reopening on Friday, May 27th.

However, the lodge, Jack Sam’s restaurant and Le7Ke Spa will remain closed until further notice.

A fire broke out on Sunday and destroyed the 70 room guest wing and caused smoke damage to other parts of the resort. Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported.

The investigation into what may have caused the fire and the extent of damage is ongoing.

“Our focus right now is on the safety of our community, and doing what we can to support our guests and our employees,” said James Tomma, Kukpi7 (Chief) of the Little Shuswap Lake Band in a statement on Monday.

On Monday, Tomma confirmed that they would rebuild the lodge when the time was right.

“Quaaout Lodge is an important part of our community. It’s an engine of economic development, but also the cultural heart of the community,” Tomma explained.

In another statement released on Wednesday, a post to the Quaaout Lodge and Talking Rock Golf Facebook page explains that staff do not have access to any phone lines at this time and are hoping the issue is resolved soon.
