Tips for styling your perfect nightstand

The nightstand is often overlooked in design.

It seems like a simple task, but I often come across clients who have had the same hand-me-down bedside tables for years and have never given them any attention.

The bedside tables are not only functional but that act as bookends to the bed, giving you a completed look.

Traditional nightstands are great for storage and give a polished look.

If you are tight on space, small tables can be useful with a wall sconce for lighting. Floating nightstands are also a great option!

An open table gives an airy, light feeling and is also more cost effective. Add a basket below for extra storage.

Styling the top of the table should be kept simple. Keeping in mind the “rule of 3’s” -keep vignettes in groups of three items: add a lamp, a small floral arrangement or greenery, and a decorative object.

Make sure your lamps fit your table, it seems simple, but a common thing I hear when meeting new clients is they have purchased the wrong size lamps and want my help!

Big tables require bigger lamps, and smaller tables require smaller lamps. My “go to” are clear, glass lamps - they work for most table sizes.

I like to keep the lamps matching on the nightstands and mix up the other 2 items for less of a “matchy-matchy” look.

Your nightstand is probably the last thing you see at night and the first thing you see when you wake up, so why not give it some extra attention and love!
