Vancouver Fashion Week 2024 Recap: The Trends That Stole the Show

April 23-28th marked the second largest fashion show in North America, Vancouver’s very own 2024 Fashion Week (VFW). With local, Canadian, and International designers, this event is known for its focus on multiculturalism and providing a platform for fresh talent.

Saturday Night is typically considered the culmination of Vancouver Fashion Week and I had the privilege of attending for the first time. It's a night filled with high energy, featuring established and highly anticipated designers such as SuGolden, Chidori, and Jean De La Croix. Here's what delighted me, amazed me, and downright shocked me from my first time experiencing the Vancouver catwalk.

First of all, this was an inclusive event that felt delightfully welcoming in the sense that absolutely everyone was made up so uniquely that it was impossible to feel out of place. Guests wore everything from regular casual wear, to sequins, to high-end labels, to cosplay. I even witnessed one woman with a baby pacifier. There was no way to show up ‘wrong’ and it appeared that each individual look was highly celebrated. It definitely made for some of the best people-watching I’ve ever experienced as well as a high-energy environment.

When the audience participates at this level it’s impossible not to feel the anticipation for what is to come. As the lights dim and the first designer is introduced, the buzzing energy of excitement is nearly tangible. Each model struts through the audience in their wearable art, working the angles, the cameras, the expectant faces with unmoved expression and masterful grace.

Each designer’s line carries with it an emotional quality with some being playful while others are dark and ominous. The music, the speed or cadence of each model’s walk, the way their hair and makeup is done, all contributes to the vibe of each showcase.

Not only is Fashion Week a chance to dress on the wild side, celebrate artistic design, and be seen, it’s also a chance to peek ahead at what styles and fashions are on the horizon. Based on what we saw, I’d say leather and texture will play a big part in 2024/2025 style as well as bright happy colors like red and yellow. Elegance is floral and tulle this year and edgy fashion is looking layered and baggy.

Congratulations to Vancouver Fashion Week for another successful year of showcasing some of the greatest talent in the arts and a big thank you for including me in this year’s show! I recommend following FVW on Instagram so you can purchase your tickets early next year and find all the information you need on the designers as well as find details for the Vancouver Kids Fashion Week.

Another special thank you to Versante Hotel in Richmond for hosting us on this girl’s getaway weekend. The floral wallpaper, poodle lamps, and branding of this hotel aligned with VFW so perfectly! Besides loving the chic decor, the Bruno Restaurant and Cask Whiskey Vault serve incredible food, elevated cocktails, and provide that cosmopolitan atmosphere we wanted while visiting the city.
