Okanagan homeowner fined after hosting Halloween party that violated COVID-19 rules

A homeowner in the Okanagan is thinking twice about hosting a large gathering after a visit from RCMP this weekend.

According to police, at approximately 11 pm on Halloween, officers were called to attend a disturbance at a residence in Vernon. The incident occurred at the 6900 block of Tronson Road when a fight occurred between two intoxicated individuals at a Halloween party.

While on scene, officers found that the number of guests at the party exceeded the limits set out in the COVID-19 Related Measures Act.

As a result, the homeowner was given a $230 fine before the shake was shut down.

"The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP would like to remind the public of the absolute importance of following the CRMA guidelines set forth by the Provincial Health Officer," wrote Cst. Christ Terleski.

Anyone who notices residents breaking COVID-19 protocols can call their nearest RCMP detachment.
