33-hectare wildfire west of Chase now 'under control'

The Mount Scatchard Wildfire west of the Village of Chase is now classified as under control, says the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

The update was provided to the municipality Thursday morning.

The BCWS said the fire grew to a little over 33 hectares after being discovered on Monday.

However, suppression efforts have ensured the wildfire will not spread beyond the current perimeter.

Overnight there were two initial attack crews patrolling the fire and conducting mop up.

There were 38 firefighting personnel continuing mop up during the day while air support remained on stand by if they were needed.

As result of the significant progress on the fire, the Neskonlith Indian Band downgrade its evacuation order to an alert for IR #2.

One evacuation alert affecting nine properties within the Thompson-Nicola Regional Districts in Electoral Area “L” (Grasslands), also known as Harper Lake, remains in effect.
