BCWS attending small wildfire west of Kamloops

(UPDATE: 6:30 pm) - BCWS has updated the fire burning west of Kamloops.

According to the update, it is burning at one hectare, approximately 24 kilometre east of Ashcroft, adjacent to Highway 1.

The wildfire is burning on steep terrain, they say, which often makes the fire more difficult to manage.

Personnel are on site and being assisted by helicopter.

BC Wildfire Service personnel are responding to a wildfire east of Kamloops, estimated to be in the area south of Deadman Creek near Walhachin Oxbows Park.

Taylor MacDonald, BCWS fire information officer, says that six personnel are responding to the fire, however, crews have not yet reported back on a size estimate or a more specific location.

The crews are being supported by a helicopter and air tankers.

MacDonald said that, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a human.
