After 10 days of burning, the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says the large wildfire burning east of EC Manning Provincial Park is now considered “held.”
That means the Placer Creek fire is expected “to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary.”
The fire was discovered on July 12 and grew to an estimated 3,109 hectares.
According to the BCWS, the efforts of ground crews, heavy equipment and helicopters were bolstered by recent rainfall, cooler temperatures and higher humidity levels.
A total of 12 mm of rain was recorded on the fire over the last 36 hours with a total of 8 mm falling overnight.
“Today crews and equipment continue to strengthen control lines, conduct fuel management activities and mop-up along control lines on the Placer Creek wildfire,” the BCWS said in its Tuesday update.
“Helicopters are supporting ground crews and operational objectives as weather conditions allow.”
Although fire activity is much lower, within the rank 1-2 level, some smoke may be visible to travellers on Highway 3 and in nearby communities as the fire reaches pockets of unburned fuels in remote areas of the fire.
Fire activity is expected to remain low on Tuesday as the temperature is forecast to only reach 16ºC and relative humidity levels will be sitting at 60%.
The BCWS said there are 142 firefighters working on the fire alongside 14 pieces of heavy equipment, nine pieces of water delivery equipment and five helicopters.
