(Original story: July 26 @ 9:24 am) – It has been a few days since the BC Wildfire Service provided an update for the Calcite Creek wildfire burning near E.C. Manning Park.
An update provided late Thursday night shows that the fire has doubled in size since Monday.
The fire is estimated at 1,800 hectares and is still classified as being out of control.
According to the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre, the fire continues to be monitored.
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says there is a structural protection plan in place and a heavy equipment “strike team” has been deployed.
“Structure protection crews are responding to this incident, working in the Pasayten Valley and Eastgate communities to assess structures within the Evacuation Alert area,” says the BCWS.
An evacuation alert remains in effect for Eastgate, Pasayten Area, and Placer Lake in Electoral Area “H”.
That means residents in the area should prepare to leave at a moment’s notice.
The fire is burning 41 kilometres south of Princeton and is southwest of Highway 3.
