Activity on the Rossmoore Lake wildfire south of Kamloops has remained stable and quiet over the past few days.
The 11,000-hectare wildfire is still considered out of control, however.
There are 135 firefighters, 38 pieces of heavy equipment and structure protection crews working on the fire on Wednesday.
According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), today’s temperatures have “significantly” cooled and there is a chance of rain this afternoon and a risk of thunderstorms in the evening.
Ground crews will be conducting smaller hand ignition operations along the fire’s edge near Frogmoore Creek on the southwest flank if conditions are favourable.
They will be supported by helicopters bucketing water along an existing guard on the southwest flank of the fire.
Danger tree assessment and removal is ongoing on the eastern flank where 40 personnel continue to directly attack the fire’s edge using water deliveries systems.
All existing evacuation orders and alerts issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District remain in place as of Wednesday afternoon.
