The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) has rescinded evacuation alerts that were issued due to a wildfire burning on the west side of Sugar Lake.
That covers all seasonal properties located on the west shore of Sugar Lake, which were previously on alert to leave at a moment’s notice due to the Sitkum Creek fire.
“Residents are reminded that although the Evacuation Alert has been removed, the entire Province is still facing threat of wildfire,”the RDNO says.
“We encourage you to stay connected with up to date information and remain aware of current situations and weather conditions.”

Shortly before 1 pm, the RDNO also modified an evacuation order for three properties on the east side of the lake.
An evacuation order remains in place for “all lands east of Sugar Lake, from the southern end to the northern tip, and from the east shore to a line north-south through Initiative Peak.”

The Okanagan Shuswap Forest District has modified the current road closure to begin at the 2.5 km mark of Kate Creek Fire Service road to limit access to the remaining evacuation order area.
There has been minimal growth on the Sitkum Creek wildfire over the weekend.
It is still estimated at 1,993 hectares.
