The Izman Creek wildfire near Lytton has been brought under control.
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) provided the positive update on Thursday, a little over 24 hours after revealing that the blaze was considered held within its containment lines.
“This change in status reflects the dedication and coordination of wildfire crews, operational staff and partner agencies who have been working tirelessly since July 1 with support from helicopters and heavy equipment,” the BCWS explained.
“While this marks a significant step forward, personnel will remain on-site to continue patrols and mop-up efforts to ensure the fire remains within containment lines.”
The wildfire began on Canada Day, one day after the fourth anniversary of the devastating blaze that destroyed most of the Village of Lytton.
It was determined that the fire was sparked when a wheel fell off an RCMP trailer and sent sparks into the dry ditch along Hwy 12.
Mounties called the circumstances “tremendously unfortunate.”
The evacuation order and alert issued for the wildfire, which grew to just under 250 hectares in size, were rescinded by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District on Wednesday.
The Izman Creek wildfire was the most-recent wildfire of note in BC and there are currently no wildfires of note within the province.
