(UPDATE: July 1 @ 6 am) - The Village of Chase has activated its emergency operations centre as a nearby wildfire continues to grow.
According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), the Mount Scatchard wildfire had grown to 35 hectares Monday night and it burning just west of Chase.
The Neskonlith Indian Band issued an evacuation order because of the fast-spreading wildfire that was discovered Monday.
Neskonlith Chief Irwin Wai says the band has ordered 40 properties to leave, but no structures were believed to be in imminent danger as of late Monday night.
A pair of evacuation alerts have also been put in place by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
The BCWS says the fire was human-caused.
Helicopters and ground crews worked on the fire overnight and an update is expected later this morning.
(UPDATE: June 30 @ 3:10 pm) – The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is now listing the fire west of Chase as four hectares in size.
The fire continues to burn out of control, however, crews are responding.
The Neskonlith Band ordered an evacuation order for an area near its administrative building.
No other evacuations have been ordered by the BCWS or the Columbia Shuswap Regional District at this time.
Kamscan, a popular fire scanner account on X, is sharing pictures of water bombers working, planes dropping fire retardant and several crews responding.

(Original story: June 30 @ 1:58 pm) – A new wildfire is being reported in the Shuswap region.
According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), fire K40769 is reported as out of control at 0.25 hectares.
It was discovered shortly after 1 pm on June 30.

The popular Kamloops fire scanner account (Kamscan) on X is reporting it as a trailer of hay on fire that spread to the grass.
The account holder said they heard over their scanner that BCWS crews are responding.
The BCWS has reported that the fire is at the intersection of Highway 1 and the Shuswap-Chase Creek Road.
