The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is advising motorists to keep an eye on DriveBC over the next few days if they are planning to travel on Highway 3 through Manning Park.
The advisory is due to the 750-hectare Turnbull Creek wildfire, which was started by lightning on Aug. 31.
According to the BCWS, the fire is within one kilometre of the highway.
The fire is burning approximately 40 kilometres east of Hope and about 93 kilometres west of Princeton.
Although there is no immediate threat to Highway 3, drivers are being told to check DriveBC up to date information on road closures over the coming days.
In a Monday morning update, the BCWS said poor visibility and steep slopes have prevented direct attack on the fire.
However, ground crews are developing contingency plans to protect the highway if the fire grows in that direction.
That includes cutting a trail below the fire should the fire continue moving downhill.
“Drivers should exercise caution when driving near a wildfire or through wildfire smoke,” the BCWS said.
“Please watch for fire crews along the road, keep your head lights on, and drive slowly but do not stop to observe the fire.”
The advisory for Highway 3 comes after the Coquihalla was closed for two days last week due to an aggressive wildfire. The highway reopened on Friday, however.
