BC residents can officially ditch ICBC insurance decals

BC residents can officially ditch those pesky insurance decals from ICBC in order to get with a new program.

As of May 1, to coincide with the full launch of online auto insurance renewals, BC drivers will no longer need a license plate validation decal on their vehicle's plate.

While today was the official launch, over 3,000 ICBC customers have already renewed their personal auto insurance policies online. Policies can be renewed up to 44 days before they expire.

According to the corporation, a majority of customers who went through the change online completed their transactions in less than 10 minutes.

While online, drivers will be able to renew current plans, apply for select discounts, update drivers on their policies and modify how they use their vehicle.

In a survey conducted by ICBC, 73% of customers said they would be renewing their insurance online from here on out.
