The Dallas Stars made a historic draft selection on Saturday.
The team made Kamloops Blazers’ forward Jermaine Loewen their seventh-round pick, 199th overall in the 2018 NHL entry draft.
With that, Loewen became the first-ever Jamaican-born player to be selected in an NHL draft.

The 20-year-old was born in Jamaica before being adopted by a Winnipeg family at a young age.
He’s played his entire four-year WHL career with the Blazers and took a huge step forward in his development this past season.
In 66 games, Loewen led the team in both goals and points with 36 and 64 respectively.
