On Thursday, June 8, the CFL’s 2023 season will kick off with a Thursday night matchup between the BC Lions and Calgary Stampeders.
When the Lions take the field that night, they’ll do so wearing one of two new jerseys that the club unveiled this morning.
The home jerseys are called Blackout and the road jerseys are called Fog Grey.
“Look good, feel good, play great. I love them,” said starting quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.
“Whenever you wear all black, there is just something about it. It’s intimidating. I know that the first home game is going to be exciting with the fans yelling and screaming as we go out there and do what we do. I’ve worn grey before at Oregon, and those were one of my favourites.”

According to a release from the club, the Blackout look “marks a return to our championship past.”
Black will be the Lions primary colour with bold orange numbers, with black pants and orange striping tying together the look.
Meanwhile, the Fog Grey look is meant to pay homage to BC’s west coast image, and will feature black numbers with orange trim and grey name bars.
“Grey pants with orange and black striping complete the Fog Grey collection to represent exactly how we want to play away from home: impenetrable and ominous,” the club said in a statement.
“The new road look represents an exciting change as the franchise looks to build off of a thrilling turnaround in 2022 and create a new era of on-field memories for our great Lions fans.”
