For the first time since the 2022 Australian Open, Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime will compete in a grand slam quarter-final match following another thrilling victory at the US Open.
The Montreal tennis star was up against 15th-ranked Andrey Rublev this morning, an opponent he had previously lost eight matches to and only defeated once before.
Down 2-4 in the first set, Auger-Aliassime flipped the script and won 12 of the next 13 points to take a 5-4 lead before winning 7-5.
Auger-Aliassime held his ground in the following sets, winning 6-3 and 6-4 to book a spot in the US Open quarter-finals.
The win marked the first time the Canadian has recorded two straight wins over top-20 opponents at a grand slam.
The Canadian will now take on the eighth-ranked Alex de Minaur on Wednesday for a spot in the semifinals.
