Vancouver native Evander Kane is coming home.
The 33-year-old winger was acquired by the Vancouver Canucks today, with the 117th overall pick in this weekend’s NHL entry draft heading to the Edmonton Oilers in return.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have acquired forward Evander Kane from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

“Evander is a physical power forward who will add some much-needed size and toughness to our group,” said Canucks GM Patrik Allvin. “We like the way he wins puck battles along the boards and handles himself in the dirty areas in front of the net.”
Kane is a veteran of 930 career regular season games in the NHL, split between the Atlanta Thrashers, Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks and Oilers.
He’s accumulated 326 goals and 617 points during that time, adding 32 goals and 55 points in 97 career playoff games.
Prior to being drafted fourth overall by the Thrashers in the 2009 NHL entry draft, Kane had an impressive WHL career with his hometown Vancouver Giants that included a Memorial Cup win as a 16-year-old in 2007.
Before the trade was even made official this morning, Kane broke the news himself on social media with a post thanking the Oilers organization, his now-former teammates and the Edmonton fans.
He also said he was “incredibly excited” for the next chapter of his career with the Canucks.
“It’s an honour to become part of an organization and team I grew up watching as a kid,” Kane wrote. “Vancouver is a city that lives and breathes hockey. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to play in front of my hometown as I did many years ago as a Vancouver Giant.”
Kane has one year left on his contract and carries a cap hit of $5.125 million.
As my time with the @EdmontonOilers has now come to a close, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank the entire organization, my teammates, and the incredible community of Edmonton.
