Brock Boeser became a free agent this morning, but his time on the open market only lasted around half an hour.
The NHL’s free agency period opened at 9 am PT today and the Vancouver Canucks announced just after 9:30 am PT that Boeser had inked a seven-year contract with the club.
The deal will pay Boeser $50.75 million over its duration, an average annual value and cap hit of $7.25 million.

Despite testing the market for a few minutes, hockey insiders reported that Boeser’s desire was always to remain with the Canucks.
"I do believe Boeser left some money on the table to stay in Vancouver," said Sportsnet 650’s Dan Riccio.
Boeser’s agent, Ben Hankinson, added: “Did you expect him to sign anywhere else?”
The seven-year deal for 28-year-old Boeser takes him to 35 years old and increases the chance that the Minnesota native plays his entire career in Canucks colours.
Drafted 23rd overall by Vancouver in the 2015 NHL draft, Boeser has registered 204 goals and 434 points in 554 career regular season games, adding 11 goals and 23 points in 29 the playoffs.
Boeser is well-loved in the Canucks locker room and other players on the team will surely be happy to have him back, but maybe no one more than goaltender Thatcher Demko.
Demko, who shared the news of Boeser’s new contract to social media with the caption, “thank you sweet baby Jesus, thank you,” also re-upped with Vancouver this morning.
Both he and Conor Garland, who would have become free agents on July 1, 2026, signed long-term extensions with the Canucks today.
On the first day they were eligible to re-sign as pending 2026 free agents, Demko inked a three-year deal that pays $8.5 million per year, while Garland’s extension is six years at $6 million per.
Vancouver is still expected to try and upgrade the roster at the centre ice position, but will need to move out money to make that happen after re-signing Boeser.
