The Vancouver Canucks have signed Kevin Lankinen to a five-year contract extension after a strong start to his first season in BC.
“Kevin has done a great job for us in net this season,” said Canucks GM Patrik Allvin after signing the netminder to a deal worth $22.5 million.
“Right from the start of the year, he has shown a strong desire to compete and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win hockey games. A good leader and teammate, we wouldn’t be in the position we are in right now without his strong play.”
Lankinen has appeared in 34 games with the Canucks this campaign, notching a 2.53 goals-against average, a .905 save percentage and four shutouts.
Earlier this season, the 29-year-old became the first goalie in NHL history to start a season with 10 consecutive wins on the road.
The netminder has represented Finland on the international stage on several occasions and previously played with the Chicago Blackhawks and the Nashville Predators before joining the Canucks.
The Canucks are back in action on Saturday against the Vegas Golden Knights.
