With less than 24 hours to go until the NHL trade deadline on Friday, the Vancouver Canucks have swung a deal.
Defenceman Carson Soucy has been traded to the New York Rangers in exchange for the San Jose Sharks’ third-round pick in the 2025 NHL draft.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has acquired a third-round draft pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenceman Carson Soucy.

Soucy signed with Vancouver as a free agent in the summer of 2023 and his first season with the Canucks was considered a huge success.
Although he missed some time with injury, he was a steady presence on the team’s back end and was a key factor in Vancouver reaching game seven of the second round of the playoffs.
Unfortunately, Soucy’s play has dipped this season and has even sat as a healthy scratch after the acquisition of Marcus Pettersson and emergence of Elias Pettersson (the defenceman).
“Carson was a big part of our success last season, helping our group take a positive step forward in the right direction,” said Canucks GM Patrik Allvin. “He is a true professional both on and off the ice and we wish him nothing but the best in New York.”
Not only do the Canucks pick up what will be a high pick in the third round, they free up the $3.25 million owed to Soucy next season to address other holes on the roster.
The NHL trade deadline is at noon PST on Friday, which means hockey fans can expect a flurry of deals over the next 20 hours or so.
