Former Rocket Shea Weber will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame this year

With the 2023-24 NHL season finally in the rear-view mirror, the Hockey Hall of Fame (HHOF) announced its class of 2024 today.

Seven individuals will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Toronto later this year, including three male players, two female players and two builders.

On that list is Shea Weber, a native of Sicamous, BC, who played his junior hockey with the Kelowna Rockets and led the team to its only Memorial Cup title in 2004.

A second-round pick of the Nashville Predators, Weber ended up playing 16 seasons and 1,038 games in the NHL with the Preds and Montreal Canadiens.

Weber also won Olympic gold twice playing for Team Canada, the first coming on the ice at Rogers Arena in his home province in 2010.

With a WHL championship, Memorial Cup, World Junior gold, World Championship gold and Olympic gold all on his resume, Weber is one of a select few to win all five.

He also has the honour of being the first Rocket to enter the HHOF, but Duncan Keith could follow in his footsteps as early as next year.

The other two notable NHLers who will be inducted into the HHOF alongside Weber are Pavel Datsyuk and Jeremy Roenick.

Datsyuk played his entire career in Detroit, dazzling fans with his magical skill and winning two Stanley Cups to go with four Lady Byng trophies.

Roenick started his career with the Chicago Blackhawks, playing eight seasons in the Windy City before stops in Phoenix, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and San Jose.

Joining those three men as part of the HHOF’s class of 2024 are Krissy Wendell-Pohl and Natalie Darwitz, two Minnesota natives who had impressive careers in the female game.

David Poile, the general manager who drafted Weber, and Colin Campbell, who has been the senior executive vice president of the NHL’s Hockey Operations for the past 25 years, will be inducted into the HHOF in the builder category.

The 2024 HHOF induction ceremony is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 11, in Toronto.
