After years of pleading and begging from fans, the iconic Flying Skate has finally made its permanent return to the Vancouver Canucks jersey rotation.
The club formally introduced their new third jerseys on Wednesday and fittingly it was the same night they honoured Gino Odjick, one of the most popular players to ever wear the original.
Odjick died on Sunday after battling health issues for nearly a decade.

“We’ve been planning all season to #FreeTheSkate tonight,” explained a post from the Canucks social team.
“Debuting the jersey now has even more significance given the passing of our beloved Gino Odjick who wore it with pride for seven seasons.”
The new third jersey has a few tweaks from the 1990s version, but the general look is the same.

All white has been removed from the logo and the red and yellow stripes are now thicker and separated.
The new versions of the Flying Skate jerseys also have a different font than the original, as the club decided to use the same font that is on the current home and away uniforms.
