JT Miller taking indefinite leave of absence from Canucks for personal reasons

When the Vancouver Canucks hit the ice to take on the New York Rangers tonight, they’ll be without one of their star players and biggest leaders.

And his absence could potentially stretch well beyond one game.

The club announced this morning that forward JT Miller will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team for personal reasons.

“Right now, our sole focus is making sure that JT knows the entire organization is here to support him,” said a statement from GM Patrik Allvin. “Out of respect to JT, we will have no further comment at this time.”

After scoring at more than a point-per-game pace for the past three seasons, Miller has been slightly below that mark to start the 2024-25 campaign in what has been a slow start for the whole team offensively.

Despite that, Miller is still second on the team with 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) through 17 games as the Canucks sit third in the Pacific Division with 21 points.

His linemate Brock Boeser has been out of the lineup for the past five games due to a concussion suffered against the Los Angeles Kings on Nov. 7.

The absence of both players will be felt as Vancouver tries to find their game following a handful of subpar performances over the past two weeks.

After hosting the Rangers tonight, the shorthanded Canucks will head east for a six-game road trip that will stretch into December.
