Jacobs and McEwen look to firm up playoff chances on day 5 of the Brier

The second half of round robin action at the Montana’s Brier in Kelowna gets underway today as the push for six available playoff spots heats up.

Here’s what you have to look forward to at Prospera Place on Tuesday.

Draw 10 (8:30 am)

The day begins with Pool B action that will see one of the group’s top teams, Sam Mooibroek’s Ontario rink, enjoying a morning bye.

Brad Jacobs will look to keep his 3-0 Alberta rink undefeated as they take on Saskatchewan-Kleiter in a matchup that will help start to shape the Pool B playoff picture.

Currently sitting on top of the group at 4-0, Mike McEwen will have the same goal as Jacobs as his Saskatchewan rink takes on a Team Yukon team, led by Thomas Scoffin, that will be fighting for their playoff lives.

Felix Asselin heads into this morning’s matchup against Aaron Bartling and Northwest Territories in dire need of a solid performance to improve Quebec’s record to 3-2.

Finally, one-win Nova Scotia, led by Owen Purcell, will hope to keep 0-3 Nunavut and skip Shane Latimer out of the win column.

Draw 11 (1:30 pm)

In afternoon action, John Epping and Reid Carruthers will take matching 4-1 records into a Northern Ontario-Manitoba battle that has massive playoff implications in Pool A.

Brad Gushue and Matt Dunstone will also be starting to think about the playoff scenarios, with Canada set to take on New Brunswick and the rink out of Winnipeg's Fort Rouge Curling Club up against Newfoundland and Labrador.

And Draw 11 will offer the home team maybe its best chance to get into the win column as Cameron de Jong and company match up against Shane Latimer's Nunavut squad.

Draw 12 (6:30 pm)

Mooibroek returns to action Tuesday night as his Ontario rink takes on Saskatchewan-Kleiter in a showdown that will be very important for the Pool B playoff picture.

Those two undefeated teams (as of this morning at least) will be looking to add to their win totals against two rinks at the bottom of the Pool B standings, as Alberta-Jacobs takes on Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan-McEwen goes up against Northwest Territories. Both teams can firm up their playoff chances with two-win days.

The other match of Draw 12 this evening will feature Tyler Smith and Prince Edward Island against Thomas Scoffin and Yukon.
