Jets survive double overtime to defeat the Blues in game 7

The last game of the NHL playoffs' first round proved to be one of, if not the most thrilling, matches of the playoffs so far.

The Winnipeg Jets were at home taking on the St. Louis Blues in a winner-takes-all game 7.

Down 3-1 with less than two minutes remaining in the game and their net empty, Vladislav Namestnikov cut the lead down to one goal.

The Jets continued to attack the net with their season on the line, and with 6.3 seconds left on the clock, Nikolaj Ehlers fanned his shot attempt.

The puck trickled forward before another Jet got it and passed it back to Ehlers. The forward then passed the puck to Kyle Connor on his right, who then fired a shot and Cole Perfetti tipped it in to tie the game with three seconds left.

Both teams then got some much-needed rest before a thrilling overtime frame that saw neither side score.

The Jets had an opportunity to score in the first extra frame when Blues captain Brayden Schenn was called for a delay of game penalty, but the Blues managed to keep Winnipeg off the scoreboard.

With the clock winding down in the second overtime period, Connor got the puck behind the Blues’ net and bounced it off the boards to Neal Pionk.

The defenceman fired a shot and Winnipeg's captain, Adam Lowry, tipped the puck in and the crowd went wild as Winnipeg defeated St. Louis 4-3 to advance to the next round of the playoffs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in action against the Florida Panthers today and the Edmonton Oilers open their series against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.

Winnipeg is back on the ice against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.
