Kamloops' Greg Stewart was back shot-putting this weekend, this time at the Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru.
Despite a labouring back injury, Stewart was still near the top of the pack on Sunday. His throw of 14.96 metres came second to just the USA's Joshua Cinnamo, who set a world-record with a toss of 16.49 metres.
"What a fun experience, to fly all the way down to South America, and spend some time in Lima, Peru," wrote Stewart. "Last week I fell and pulled my back out, and on Friday I felt pretty unsure on whether I was going to be able to compete today. My physiotherapist, as well as my massage therapist, did an extraordinary job pulling me back together."
"I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity, and I'm looking forward to competing at Worlds in November. Shout out to all the athletes competing here at the ParaPan American Games, continue to strive forward, push the limits, and be the best that you can be. Remember, Have Fun, do what you want to do and keep loving yourself. Also, congratulations to Joshua Cinnamo on throwing a hefty world-record."
Stewart's medal is Canada's tenth total. They have three gold, three silver, as well as four bronze to sit ninth at the Parapan American Games.
