After a thrilling week of the best BC curlers playing each other in Langley, the men’s and women’s provincial champions were crowned on Sunday.
The team representing BC in the upcoming Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay, Ont., is Team Brown of the Kamloops Curling Club.
Brown’s rink defeated Team MacMillan in nine ends on Sunday to get their revenge against three-quarters of the squad that beat them in last year’s final.
Team Brown opened the scoring with a single, but MacMillan quickly took the lead with a deuce in the second frame.
The Kamloops-based rink answered by scoring three points in the third end to take a 4-2 lead.
Each time Team MacMillan scored, Team Brown always seemed to have an answer as they went on to win 10-7.
The Scotties Tournament of Hearts will take place from Feb. 14 - 23 in Ontario.
Representing BC in the upcoming Brier is Team de Jong of the Victoria Curling Club after defeating Penticton’s Team Venance.
Team Venance opened the scoring with a deuce in the second end before de Jong tied the match in the following frame.
The Penticton rink then added a pair of singles to go up 4-2, but Team de Jong put four points on the board in the sixth end to regain the lead.
Both rinks then went back and forth scoring and Team Venance cut the lead to one score after posting a deuce in the ninth end.
Team de Jong managed to hold Venance’s rink off the board in the final frame and added a single to seal the win.
The Victoria-based club will now have the opportunity to represent BC in the first Brier to be held in Kelowna since 1968.
The Brier gets underway on Feb. 28 and runs until March 9.
