The Florida Panthers have some life in the Stanley Cup Final after defeating the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 in double overtime on Friday.
The first period of Friday’s match was a scoring frenzy as Florida opened the scoring before Edmonton got a pair of goals.
Edmonton’s 2-1 lead lasted for a couple of minutes before Florida evened the score. A minute after Seth Jones put the Panthers on the board, Leon Draisaitl regained Edmonton’s one-goal lead.
The second frame saw Florida even the score before Brad Marchand scored a short-handed goal to put the Panthers up 4-3, a lead that would last until the dying seconds of the game.
With less than 30 seconds to play, Corey Perry found the back of the net to tie the game for Edmonton and force overtime.
Both teams went back and forth in the first extra frame and needed a second overtime period to decide a winner.
Marchand got the puck in the second overtime and broke free, burying his second goal of the match to hand Florida the win.
The Stanley Cup Final is now tied 1-1 as the series shifts to Florida for two matches. Game three is scheduled for Monday evening.
