The Vancouver Whitecaps have been around for more than 50 years and are set to play in one of the franchise’s most important matches tonight.
The Whitecaps are in Mexico and facing the club Cruz Azul in the Concacaf Champions Cup final.
Cruz Azul has won the tournament on six occasions and is looking for a record-tying seventh victory tonight.
For Vancouver, a win would not only mark the first time the Whitecaps have won the event, but the first time any Canadian team has won the title.
A victory would also qualify the Whitecaps for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup and prize money.
Brian White has led the ‘Caps in scoring with five goals in six matches and goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka has 18 saves, the second most in the tournament.
The team will be without Sebastian Berhalter, who has been a vital piece to Vancouver’s special run, because of a yellow card accumulation suspension.
Kick off is at 6 pm PDT tonight.
